Suggested pacing
- Day 1: Arrive in Johannesburg — Rest before the road trip.
- Day 2: Johannesburg to Dullstroom — Leave after the commuter peak, break the eastbound drive in the highlands and refuel before the escarpment.
- Day 3: Panorama Route viewpoints — Prioritize a few canyon and waterfall stops, allow for fog and finish before the mountain roads become a tired night drive.
- Day 4: Lowveld and Kruger preparation — Use Hazyview for supplies, confirm the entrance that matches the booked camp and check current gate times.
- Day 5: Enter southern Kruger — Reach the selected gate early and allow SANParks travel time to the booked camp, with extra time for wildlife stops.
- Day 6: Full Kruger safari day — Build a conservative self-drive loop around your camp and consider one SANParks-guided drive instead of chasing distance.
- Day 7: Final drive and park exit — Use a short final loop, refuel if needed and be outside the gate—or back at camp—before the published closing time.
